Should you suppress your optimistic inclination? I am one of those people who are extremely positive. I pondered on that question a few times too many. You are naturally inclined to be pessimistic or optimistic. How do you check and temper your positive and negative attitudes. Either of those will be difficult to subdue.
Keeping your happy thoughts to yourself is challenging especially if your optimism represents the true essence of who you are. I am not advocating that you quell your positive energy. In fact, we need to do the opposite. No one wants to become more negative and if you do, well, we can discuss that at another time. Send me an email :)
I often think about what my influence is in the world. I never want to be that person whose presence create negativity, unhappiness or discontent. Being a positive human instrument is important to me.
Some questions that I ask myself are;
- Are my relationships with friends, family, coworkers and people positive?
- Am I making valuable contributions to the lives of others?
- What did I do today to positively impact the world?
- Are my attitude and behavior demonstrative of kindness and goodness?
I believe that we have a key role in promoting goodness.Those questions above keep me grounded. I learned that practicing and elevating kindness and goodness in the world is critical. We need people who embrace that responsibility to balance out the undesirables. Here is one strategy that you can use to maximize your positive impact.
- Self analysis. Use the questions above. If your answer to any of those questions is no or nothing, you may want to change some things.
I think that my behavior is my responsibility and I work diligently to keep the attitude that meets my standard. I will do what I must to maintain a positive outlook. I deliberately realign my thoughts and adjust my environment.
